Confessions of a Recent Convert
Hey there blog hoppers. Welcome to my stop on the Zombie Crawl Blog Party! Today I'm going to be sharing my brief story as a recent convert to the zombie trope. Hope you enjoy!
I'll be honest with you readers, Ethan here is not really a zombie fan. *gasp* I know, I know. Hard to believe. I've never seen an episode of The Walking Dead, most horror movies bore me to tears, and until about a two years ago, I'd never so much as touched a zombie novel. So what am I doing here? Well, it just so happens that the works of a few pretty awesome people have converted me over full fledged to where I maybe, just kind of really freaking enjoy the trope now. So what changed? Let's take a walk through my top five favorite zombies ever.

So honestly, that's about it when it comes to the visualized zombies that I can tolerate. Thankfully, there have been some absolutely incredible zombie book series that have really appealed to my inner bookworm. I've read about a dozen at this point, but these three are hands-down my favorite. Let's check them out!

First would have to be the novel that first introduced me to literary zombies, Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. I know there's a lot of controversy around this one and it's inclusion in true zombie lore, but seriously as a newbie who was really hesitant about zombies in the first place, it was the perfect introduction for me. I've read these books so many times now. They're great!

As you guys can see, while I may not be a huge zombie fan, I've got a few zom-favories under my cap. Every time I read another zombie series it changes my bookish mind towards the zombie trope. While I don't believe it'll ever become my favorite, I think it's definitely going to be something I see becoming more and more prominent in my future! What about you guys? Fan of the films? The books? Let me know what you think in the comments below! To share some of my favorites with you all, I'm giving away box set copies of both Andrews and Aukes series below. Don't miss it!

I suggest Alien for the movies.
ReplyDeleteETHAN! Have you not read my Zpoc novel I, Zombie? Hell, PM me and I'll send you a copy. No review or anything expected, but you just "have" to read it. Totally YA though. You've been warned. LOL! <3
ReplyDeleteGreat post! You have me intrigued, and I have added Deadland Saga and World Without End series to my kindle wishlist, holding out to see if I win ;) You must must must check out Ann Christy's Between Life and Death Series!!! My all time fav! I am also new to the zombie realm, and am pretty picky with my Z reads. I am giving away ebooks 1-3 on my zombie crawl post on 2 Girls & A Book, make sure you enter! I totally was to fast on the trigger finger and missed half of what I'm supposed to comment about LOL all I caught was something about Halloween...so, I love everything about Halloween, but I'm a chicken when it comes to scary movies! I do love Zombieland tho! How do you go wrong with a cast like that! And super funny, and gory....perfection! And Bill Murry cracks me the heck up! I have to rewind his end scene and watch it couple times every time!
ReplyDeleteI've gotten into zombies in the past year. But so far pretty much only in books. I've seen a little of the tv shows with them and just am not that much into seeing gore. Maybe I should shoot for that Scooby Doo movie - I think I could handle that one! Vampires. Just - no. I like my blood where it is, thankyouverymuch! Did read a vampire book last week and hated it. But that was because it got into demons - my true deep hatred and fear. Don't want anything to do with them, on screens, in books, in my house or in my life.
ReplyDeleteYes. I need to watch that Scooby Doo movie...
You know my favorite Halloweenish trope would be pretty much everything. I love zombies, vampires, demons, wolves the whole nine yards. Why just because it is the horror of what if they were to be real. Could I do what everyone in the books and movies do? Or would I be the one that ends up dying within minus lol. Scary movies the only one I would say is Freddy Kruger that is the only movie series that is truly scary for me. I mean down right fingers covering the eyes and peeking. Other than that I haven't found many good scary movies.
ReplyDeleteZombies and ghosts are my favorites, and for movies The Exorcist will always freak me out.
ReplyDeleteI am more of a Vamp guy. I loved the 3 books by Kelley Grealis. I have read a great deal of late on zombies but I always fall back to paranormal vamps and wolves. Scary movie: The Omen.
ReplyDeleteI like it all. That is the fun of Halloween. All the zombies and paranormal creatures come out to play.
ReplyDeleteI don't read zombies or vampires, don't like most horror movies. I LOVE Halloween, though! Everything from Rocky Horror to Nemo may show up at my door. I have lots of Day of the Dead decorations and candles burning right now...love it!
ReplyDeleteI am into The Walking Dead big time, just got netflix and am catching up cause i don't have cable but also liked True Blood, too bad it's over
ReplyDeleteThank you for this great opportunity. I haven't read very many zombie books yet, I do love the new series iZombie though I just binged watched on Netflix and all caught up on CW. A couple ones I like on Movie is World War Z and Warm Bodies was different than I expected.
