This time on the chopping block? Faithless (Part 3) by KB Nelson! You guys may remember KB Nelson as the author behind Carnival, one of my favorite reads of 2014! My Thoughts:

Well, here we are. In just one short month, KB Nelson has delivered to us a completed serial full of romance, angst, and tension so thick you need a knife to get through it. Now that it's over what can we say? Well. It's over. That much is for sure. I really wasn't sure what to expect from this final part of Faithless. Any fan of KB Nelson will straight up tell you to always expect the unexpected. Even I wasn't expecting how this one would end.

I actually really liked the way that Faithless ends. Although I will say with honesty that the finale actually creates more questions than it could ever hope to answer. It left me with this hollow pit in my stomach. Was it sadness? Happiness? I'm not entirely sure. I know this review isn't really answering any questions, but I will just openly tell you that this serial isn't one that words will ever do a great job of explaining. You have to read it to get the full effect.

It's pretty well known at this point that I do not really care for romance novels generally. Faithless has proven to be one of those exceptions because of just how unique it is. There isn't any 'love at first sight', there's no 'unreal' aspect to the story. But how believable is it? In my opinion it is and it isn't, but that isn't up for debate here. Everything that happens in this story will speak differently to each reader.

As with any book I read, there are things that worked, and things that didn't with this story. This was the first serial I have read and I think there is serious potential in the future of serials. I do have to say, I would much prefer a full novel though. In a serial you really just do not get the character development that I like to see in the novels that I read. That being said, there is so much I would have liked to learn about Faith and Luke/Noah in this series that I just didn't seen. I know there is only so much you can get out of a three part serial, but I was constantly left wanting more. 

In the end, I was really glad to see Faithless have a much deserved, completed story line. Our story really comes full circle and leaves you with the knowledge that all of our actions have consequences. Not only on our lives, but also on the lives of those who surround us. That being said, I am granting Faithless (Part 3) a well deserved 4-star review! While I thoroughly enjoyed this series, I know it will not be for everyone. Take not that this novel has strong language, and extremely adult situations. I'm sure that if you are a fan of dark romances, this is the read for you!

My Thoughts:

So if you guys have been following this series, you probably saw my review of part one the other day. I know part two isn't releasing for a few more days, but I was lucky enough to get my hands on an ARC and couldn't wait to devour it. While I could probably wait to share my thoughts, I have to get them down for you guys!

Part 2. GAH. Seriously. Do you like angst? Suspense? And so many emotions you could burst? Part two is for you. No seriously stop what you are doing and read this serial. Just when I thought we couldn't get any further 'off the rails', Nelson throws a number of huge curve balls at the reader. I was not expecting the direction that this serial took. And honestly? I loved every second of it.

The second installment of this serial featured exactly what I wanted: a whole bunch more back story. In part two we learn why Faith had to leave Old Town and the implications behind all of her decisions. I am almost to the point where I want to read a novel solely about Faith's life over the course of the four years she was gone. Faith is awesome. The character development that she displays just over the course of this sixty pages is nothing short of astounding. While Noah and Luke definitely had their moments, Faith really came into her own during this one and it really helped with both the pacing and the plot. I'm not sure who Nelson was channeling when she wrote Faith, but woah: what a character!

I wont spoil anything here, but when I found out this was a story about the relationship between a stripper and a preacher only one thought came to mind: something particular HAS to happen. Oh and hey, guess what? It did. And it was glorious! Seriously, KB Nelson took a scene that I wasn't sure would even work and turned it into something that I am not sure any other author could have executed as beautifully. KB Nelson, kudos to you. Add this one to your highlight reel! After you guys read the second installment, you will definitely be able to tell what scene I am referring to!

What was I expecting in the second part of this serial? Honestly I had no idea, but I do know I was blown away. I'm not even kidding when I say 'wow'. KB Nelson has done it again! A well deserved 5-star review here! I don't know about you guys but after that ending, I will definitely be anxiously awaiting the final portion to our story!

My Thoughts:

I’ll be completely honest here when I say that I have never read a serial before. I wasn’t completely sure what to expect and I’m still not entirely sure I understand the entire concept. I do, however, like the idea of getting to reconnect with great characters and a gripping storyline multiple times. In that breath, I’m glad I found Faithless. For the millionth time I will say that I don’t generally care for romance. I just don’t. I’m a guy who is way more into the fantasy, butt-kicking fiction genre than the sappy romance thing any day of the week. But what about when the romance isn’t sappy? What about when the romance really isn’t a romance? What about when the romance is a gripping story of a stripper’s search for peace and redemption and a preacher’s search for Faith? Yeah, I can try that one.

Faithless is unlike anything I have ever read, I will be completely honest. If it had not been for my being a huge fan of the works of KB Nelson, there is a great chance that Faithless would have never crossed my path. Like I said, I don’t actively go seeking romance novels, they just have nice habit of falling into my lap!

Clocking it at just shy of 70 pages in my edition, Faithless is a very quick read. In this first part in a three part serial, we are introduced to the characters of Faith, Noah, and Luke through both flashbacks to their heartbreaking past and a present where there is definitely more going on that meets the eye.

Faith, our female MC, definitely has some issues to sort out. She’s finally returned home after a long absence and has learned that things are definitely not as she left them. I can’t say hardly anything without giving away the plot lines, but Faith’s journey is definitely proving to be an interesting one. As for Noah and Luke? They are great characters who I cannot wait to see more of in the second and third installments. There is definitely something to this story, I can’t wait to see how it all unravels!

I’ll be the first to admit that when I found out this was the story of a preacher and a stripper and their subsequent romantic conquest, I was extremely hesitant. That whole notion just sounds… wrong. After reading and loving Carnival earlier this year, I knew If any author could weave this story, it would be KB Nelson!

In a genre full of unrealistic romance, KB Nelson really sets the bar high with Faithless. Nobody ever said love was easy, but Faith Richards redefines meaning of the word. From lust to heartbreak, FAITHLESS will definitely leaving you wanting more! A well deserved 4.5-star review here! I know I will be checking out the next two installments, for sure!

Excerpt

A song begins, and it only takes a few strokes of her guitar before I realize what she’s playing—my favorite song since I was a child. The woman in the back belts out Wild Horses with the power of a Kelly Clarkson clone. The way she twists with the melody is haunting, a complete display of emotional battery. With her words, she beats the fuck out of my fragile soul, leaving wounds and bruises so dark, so blue, that anyone can see.

Noah sees. He sees right through me and the space between us shatters. Our walls come down and he stares into my eyes. I catch a glimpse of who we used to be before the world set out on its campaign to destroy us.

His palm grazes over my shoulder before landing on my back. “Come dance with me.”

I don’t say anything, but respond by sliding off my stool and landing on my feet. I let him take the lead as he slowly draws me out to the center of the dance floor. The floor is vacant with nothing standing between us and the songbird—and she soars to new heights, further damaging my fragile emotional state.

Noah takes my left hand into his right and wraps his left hand around my hip. We begin to circle each other, our feet directing where we go. “I’ve missed you, Faith.”

I want to lie to him and say that I don’t feel the same way because things are a whole lot easier that way. But I can’t lie, not right now. Not when he’s holding me like this. “I missed you, too.”

“I’m sorry for earlier.” He runs his face over his shoulder. “I know I can come off bitter and angry.”

“You think?” I ask deadpan.

“I know.”

I lean my head against his shoulder, and it’s a much-needed rest. I could fall asleep like this, all the while my feet continuing to dance in a circle. “Do you ever wish we could go back and change things?”

“Every second of every day.”

I let out a light chuckle that is muffled against the fabric of his shirt. “Our past defines us, Noah. Everyone says it shouldn’t,” I say somberly, “but it does, and I’m running on empty here…”
