Waiting on Wednesday {5}

Hey everyone and welcome to my weekly Waiting on Wednesday meme post! This is just a once a week deal where each Wednesday I post about one book I am looking forward to reading and then link it up to the host blog, Breaking the Spine, where I can be connected to over 200 other readers and bloggers who are looking for a new read! My friend Kim from kimberlyfayereads participates in this meme each week and it has always looked like a great time. Below you will find the book cover, synopsis, Goodreads link and my reasons for waiting on this read! Enjoy!

This week's WOW is... Egg and Spoon by Gregory Maguire

Egg & Spoon
Release Date: September 10, 2014
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Fairy Tale
Picture

A fantasy set in Tsarist Russia.

Elena Rudina lives in the impoverished Russian countryside. Her father has been dead for years. One of her brothers has been conscripted into the Tsar’s army, the other taken as a servant in the house of the local landowner. Her mother is dying, slowly, in their tiny cabin. And there is no food. But then a train arrives in the village, a train carrying untold wealth, a cornucopia of food, and a noble family destined to visit the Tsar in Saint Petersburg — a family that includes Ekaterina, a girl of Elena’s age. When the two girls’ lives collide, an adventure is set in motion, an escapade that includes mistaken identity, a monk locked in a tower, a prince traveling incognito, and — in a starring role only Gregory Maguire could have conjured — Baba Yaga, witch of Russian folklore, in her ambulatory house perched on chicken legs

Why am I waiting?
I think the better question is "why are you not waiting? Gregory Maguire is my ALL TIME favorite author and I am fairly positive I would read this man's grocery list if he published it. Seriously. His career has lasted over two decades and still goes strong. This is the man that gave us Wicked. Yes people, he is THAT big of a deal. Maguire is one of the most amazing authors I have ever come across. His writing style is a national treasure, in my opinion. Have I mentioned how much I like Gregory Maguire? Anyway. Egg and Spoon is another fairy tale reimagining, but the interesting part this time is that it tells the story of Baba Yaga, the famous Russian fairy tale witch. I am a huge fan of Russian culture and actually did an entire paper in college over Baba Yaga. Needless to say, I am PUMPED about this read, you guys! And good news for me, I don't have to wait on it, because guess what? IT COMES OUT TODAY! WOOHOO! So... be on the look out for my review very soon!

  2. Oh, sounds great! I didn't know Maguire had a new one out. I loved Wicked and a few of his others. Actually, I might be able to interest my daughter in reading this (she's been in a reading slump lately), so I'm glad to have read your post. Enjoy the book!
