For the Heart of Dragons (The Dragons of Eternity #3) by Julie Wetzel Review

Hey readers! Ethan here with an exciting review for you this evening. Tonight I am reviewing the third novel in one of my new favorite series. This year has been all about embracing the new for me and this series really took me by storm. Tonight on the chopping block? For the Heart of Dragons by Julie Wetzel. Before we get to my thoughts, here's a bit about the novel and our author!

Disconnection is a very serious issue for dragons that can leave them stuck in one form or another, but it’s a condition that usually comes on slowly and rarely catches anyone by surprise. No one knows this better the Kara Rose, Eternity’s leading specialist in the treatment of this condition. So when the head of Eternity demands her presence for an emergency, she can’t imagine what he could want. She is, after all, only a therapist.

As a top mage with Eternity, Noah Dove has worked with dragons for most of his life, so he is used to their odd quirks and physical needs. When a dark beauty shows up to disrupt the king’s celebrations, he agrees to go with her to keep the peace. When Noah is unable to protect the woman from the group killing dragons, he’s left with her last request—to save her dragon. It would normally be an impossible task, but with a bit of magic and some help from the dragon, Noah forms the one thing that can transfer a dragon from one person to another—a Heart Stone.

Now the dragon is loose and out of control… and the only person who can help is Kara. With Noah’s consciousness locked away beyond her reach, she must somehow find a way to soothe the dragon and connect two halves that were never a whole. The task is daunting and will push her knowledge—and personal boundaries—to their limit and beyond.

Julie Wetzel is a mother of a hyperactive red headed boy, and what time she’s not chasing down dirty socks and unsticking toys from the ceiling she's crafting worlds readers can get lost it. Julie is a self-proclaimed bibliophile and lover of big words. She likes hiking, frogs, interesting earrings, and a plethora of other fun things.

My Thoughts:

Earlier this year, Julie Wetzel took hold and shook some bookish sense into me. A self-proclaimed hater of dragons, I didn't expect to enjoy this new series near as much as I did. From the very first novella, my entire world exploded and now? I can't get enough of Wetzel's reptilian behemoths. Each and every novel in this series continues to blow me away.

But did For the Heart of Dragons live up to its' predecessors?

Heck yes. And then some.

I would go so far as to say that Noah may be my favorite dragon yet! Much like the previous stories, Heart follows the stories of an unsuspecting dragon thrown into peril like none other. In true Wetzel fashion, Heart did not disappoint. I was so enthralled in Noah's story. Unlike some of our other protagonists, Noah is well-versed in the world of Eternity, but never did he imagine he himself would become a dragon. Dragon-Psychiatrist Kara has never seen a case as bad as Noah, but if anyone can crack his scaly exterior, it's here. Can they unravel the mystery behind Noah's condition in time? With the mysteries of Eternity quickly expanding with each novel, can they solve the crimes before Eternity falls?

One of my favorite parts about Heart was that it was truly a deep novel with a lot of feels, but Wetzel was able to add in a lot of surface level humor that made this an extremely quick read with great pacing. With her world fully developed, we aren't bogged down by rules and logistics, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the beautiful world she has created.

The setting and world that Wetzel has crafted with this series is incredible. From ancient times to modern day, the world of Dragons and their human shifters is definitely unique and memorable. Much like other worlds with their feet in our realm, Wetzel has done a perfect job of altering the fabric of reality to let the fantasy stream through into our own world. Wetzel is able to better tell her story and make it enjoyable to even the most casual of readers. A true testament to the talent of her writing, Wetzel has far surpassed my expectations for the genre!

I have no doubt that Wetzel will continue to exceed my every expectation and confirm my beliefs that my views on high fantasy are changing with each passing installment of this series. Let that be a lesson to all hesitant readers: one great series can, indeed, make a difference!

With all of this being said, it should come as absolutely no surprise that I am granting For the Heart of Dragons a well-deserved 5-star review! Julie Wetzel has yet to disappoint me, and I can't wait to see what comes next. I highly recommend this read to all lovers of high fantasy, paranormal, and romance novels, though be advised of the novels adult content, violence, and language.
