Hooked by Christine Manzari Cover Reveal

Hey readers, Ethan here with an awesome cover reveal for you guys! You may remember just last week I revealed the new covers for Christine Manzari's The Sophisticates series. Today I am honored to present to you guys the cover for Manzari's upcoming New Adult Contemporary Romance Hooked! Here's a bit about the book and our author:

Title: Hooked
Author: Christine Manzari
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 2/3/15

If you ask the confident and snarky skater girl, and she’s in the mood to share, she’ll tell you her name is Cat. She might even tell you that she’s hooked on graffiti, 80s movies, and having fun—the riskier the better. Cat will share a good time with you, but she won’t ever trust you enough to share her heart. It’s protected by secrets and she’d like to keep it that way.

Cat knows one thing for certain: Love isn’t really her thing.

If you ask the confident and rich pretty boy, he might tell you his name is Huck. He might even tell you he loves a challenge and is used to getting his way. He won’t tell you that his life is a mess because he risked his heart by trusting the wrong girl. Huck is ready for a change, he just wasn’t ready to get hooked on someone like Cat.

Huck knows one thing for certain: Love hasn’t done him any favors, but Cat just might be worth the risk.

Cat and Huck think a one-night stand seems harmless, but when all the little secrets they didn’t share turn out to be toxic truths, they realize how easily a one-night stand (or a few) could ruin everything.

The thing is, you can be ruined in more than one way. Once you’re HOOKED, what wouldn’t you risk for the chance at more?

About the Author

Christine Manzari

The first thing Christine does when she's getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She's addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. Books, books, books. She also has a weakness for adventure, inappropriate humor, and coke (the caffeine-laden bubbly kind). Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.

HOOKED EXCERPT
----------------------------------

“Interesting,” she said, taking time to silently check me out a little longer before her eyes lifted to meet mine again. “Well, nice to meet you, Huck.” She waved as she started walking backwards to where she’d left the other guy sitting.

“You’re leaving?” I asked.

“That’s all he told me to ask you,” she explained, a smile teasing at the corners of her wicked lips.

“I don’t get to ask you anything?”

“Not tonight, Abercrombie.”

Abercrombie? What did that mean?

“I don’t even get a name?” I asked.

“Not yet.”

“Will you be back here tomorrow?”

“I’m at the skate park most Saturday mornings,” she offered.

“Where’s that?” I asked. I hadn’t been to many places around Venice Beach yet. The first night I ventured down to the Santa Monica Pier to check it out, I’d accidentally stumbled across Old Muscle Beach and the strange, beautiful girl who was now walking away from me. I hadn’t been able to force myself to explore anywhere else yet. I didn’t really want to. She was the only thing I wanted to explore.

“It’s over by the graffiti walls,” she called over her shoulder, pointing to the south end of the beach. “You can’t miss it.”

“You’ll be there tomorrow?” I asked.

“Like I said, I usually am on Saturday mornings.”

“What time?”

“Whenever I get up,” she answered, flashing me an impish smile.

I guess I knew what I’d be doing all morning—hanging out at the skate park like a goddamn pedophile. She kept walking without looking back and I watched as she rejoined the guy I’d seen her hanging out with every night so far. I hoped he was just a friend. If not, I was going to have to relegate him to that duty because I definitely wanted to get to know the skater girl better.

I was hooked.

Dark Awakened (The Devil's Assistant #2) by HD Smith Review

Hey everyone and Happy Tuesday. I have to be honest and share with you guys that Tuesday is my least favorite day of the week. Seriously: I. Hate. Tuesdays. I don't know what it is about them, I can't be the only one though! Oh well, Tuesdays may suck, but I am so excited to be blogging right now? Why? Because I just finished one of the best books I have read in a long time and I can't wait to share my thoughts. What are we talking about? Dark Awakened by HD Smith! Before we get to my thoughts, here is a little bit about the book and our author:

Last spring Claire’s seemingly normal—if not totally screwed up—life was tossed on its head. For five years she’d been one of the damned—a human that knows the truth about the otherworldly among us. She’d worked for The Boss—the Demon King himself—as his administrative assistant, handling everything from early retirements, to Maintenance’s incessant requests for dental.

No one gets dental.

Then she walked into Purgatory—totally not her fault—went back in time, and awakened powers she never knew existed. Now Claire has a prophecy hanging over her head, a diamond ring hidden in her sock drawer, and the blood of a long dead royal running through her veins.

And it’s only going to get worse.

Her vow to live free or die takes a serious hit when she’s forced back under The Boss’s protection. Of course, there’s no protection from fate, or the Bounty Hunter sent to deliver her to Purgatory. And as if being “the girl” in the prophecy wasn’t enough, Claire soon discovers there are three other contenders for her role—two of whom want her dead.

Follow more of Claire’s adventures in Dark Awakened, the second installment of the Devil’s Assistant Series, to find out if she’s lucky enough to escape with her life, or if she’s just the first notch on the next contender’s belt.

HD SMITH
HD Smith has been writing as a hobby for over ten years. DARK HOPE was her first full length novel. She has previously published two middle grade novellas in ebook format. She is a software developer by day, working for an awesome cruise line in Celebration, FL.

HD grew up in South Carolina, but has called the Sunshine State home since 1997. She has Computer Science degrees from Clemson University (BS) and Florida Institute of Technology (MS). Her other hobbies include painting and screen printing. She enjoys creating t- shirts inspired by the places in her books.

My thoughts:

As some of you may remember, a few months ago I reviewed the first novel in this series, Dark Hope. While I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Hope, I was left with so many questions. I really did not know what direction this series was going to take and didn't exactly know what to think about it. I knew I liked it, but with so many lasting questions, I just didn't know. Of course I jumped at Dark Awakening as soon as HD let me know it was coming, but I was still cautious. I had no idea what to expect. Let me just throw this out there on the table right now: each and every issue I may have had with Dark Hope was COMPLETELY rectified in Dark Awakened. Seriously. I absolutely loved ever second of it.

As I type this I just finished the novel. I don't even know where to begin with these thoughts. HD Smith is a literary genius and has really struck gold with her second installment in her The Devil's Assistant series. This sophomore outing gave me everything I wanted and then some: action, suspense, mystery, and more feels that you can catch with a bucket.

The Characters. If anyone read Dark Hope I have great news for you, there aren't that many new characters. Unfortunately if you have not read Dark Hope you are going to be real confused because the cast of characters is HUGE. Seriously. I'd day there are a good 25 characters between these two novels and they are all extremely important to the plot line. HD Smith doesn't do background characters! If you don't serve a purpose, you aren't there! Claire, as always, is awesome. In Dark Awakened we begin to see a whole new side of her. A year ago Claire served as the Devil's secretary who hated her life and was treated like a dog, now Claire is helping to save the world, literally by protecting hellspawn, taking down Horsemen, dominating a realm, and trying to avoid the craziness of the big Three by all means! Seriously Claire may have become one of my favorite book girlfriends just with this novel. She's incredible strong (both physically and mentally), intelligent, and sarcastic as can be. You can't lose with that equation. String off from Claire we have so many amazing characters. Dark Awakened again features some of my favorite characters such as The Boss and The Quads in the story line. New characters like Thanos and Ronin really helped to add some emotion to this read and I loved it. Seriously, I think this series has some amazing potential because these characters are great! I'd love to see a spin-off or a novella featuring more of the Quads *hint hint HD Smith* LOL

The Plot. What could possibly go awry when the Pagan Queen, the Demon King, and the Druid King are at odds in stopping one of the most powerful beings in history? Everything. That's what. For over 300 pages this story was non stop. Action here, mystery there, exciting here: everything about this one was awesome. I remember commenting that book one was a little slow at times, but this one never slowed down! Seriously anyone who picks this one up and really gets into it like I did will not be able to set it down. And the ending? Definitely not a cliff hanger, but after reading it I know that HD Smith has a clear direction for this series and I cannot wait to see what happens! Also, who are "the candidates"?! Ahh! I must know! Does anyone know when book three comes out!?

The Paranormal Element. From Druids to Demons and all in between, HD Smith really grants us an awesome gift with this series. Magic abound, spells, curses, and dark marks: this novel had paranormal oozing from its' pores. Talking dragons and time time travel? Oh yeah, it has that too. Seriously, I think this novel will appeal to anyone who loves paranormal as much as I do. Also did I mention that Death is a huge character? And he is kind of awesome. You never know who, or what, to expect from this series!

The Feels. HD Smith hit us pretty hard with feels in Dark Hope. Claire's love life takes a drastic turn for the worse and then she gets bombshell after bombshell dropped on her about her true lineage. You can't help but feel bad for her. In Dark Awakened, Claire does a one eighty and really does the Phoenix thing and rises from the ashes! She takes all of her emotions and learns to control them in the most awesome way: with some freaking awesome powers. Channeling all of her feels, Claire becomes a near unstoppable force. But can she control the power within her or with the Harbinger of Doom fall prey to her own strength? On top of all of this Claire gets a love interest! And honestly I think it may have been one of the coolest relationships in the entire book. I cannot wait to see how that particular story line plays out!

I could type all night about how awesome this second installment in The Devil's Assistant series was, but I think rather than spoil anything for you guys, I will leave it at that. What should you take away from this? How about that Dark Awakened is HD Smith's best work yet and a real treat for all paranormal fans! I am granting Dark Awakened a well-deserved near-perfect 5-star review! I don't know of anything I would have liked to have seen done differently. HD Smith really came into her own with her sophomore outing in this series. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next in the crazy life of Claire Cooper! Check it out people, seriously: it's that good!

Wednesdays with #InternEthan {Week 1}

**REPOSTED FROM FACEBOOK**

Alright everyone I have an announcement to make. I have been keeping this under the radar waiting for the right moment to make it "FBO" but people are starting to find out so I guess it's time to let the world know! As many of you know, I am the site administrator of my own book review website, One Guy's Guide to Good Reads. I have been at this gig for close to eight months now where my life has been completely transformed. I was told for 4 years at Missouri State to "follow my passion" and I would "find my place". I never would have imagined that would come true. While I have several passions, I have found, without doubt, that my truest passion lies within literature. Over the past few months I have been searching for a way to make my love of reading into a career via numerous avenues. I finally got my big break a couple of weeks ago guys. A few of you already know this, but those of you who don't here goes!

As of last week I have been selected as a Literary Intern at the Corvisiero Literary Agency under the guidance of Mrs. Sarah Negovetich! Yes, you read that right, ETHAN IS A LITERARY INTERN! My dreams are coming true folks! While I don't know where this will lead me, I know I am more excited about it than I can say. Mrs. Sarah and the rest of#TeamCorvisiero have been so awesome in welcoming me to the family. Over the course of the foreseeable future, I will be working closely with Sarah and learning the ins and outs of the literary world. Who knows what may happen? It's my goal to work with Sarah to find the "next big thing" in the book world! I know we can do it, she's already shown me some pretty amazing things! I'm still wrapping my mind around all this, but I know my future has taken a step in the right direction!

Before you ask, I will not be moving or going anywhere. I will continue to work my current job and will do this internship remotely on my down time, just as I have the blog. That being said, my blogging will also not be affected by this new position. I will continue to work closely with all my author friends to bring you all the latest and greatest in the books world! Before everyone headed off for their Thanksgiving festivities I just wanted to share with you all one of the many, many new things I have to be thankful for in 2014. I am so honored to have been granted such an incredible opportunity.

I have so many people to thank for this. I just can't list them all here. Special shout outs go to each and every one of you who have helped to make my blog the success it is today. Every morning I wake up and am blown away the the number of page views and comments I receive. To every reader, fellow blogger (The Safe Space too!), and author who has taken a chance on me and my blog: Thank you. From the bottom of my heart! I could have never done any of this without all of your support. Also a special shout out to my 'support staff' for helping me out with all blog-related things. Seriously, thank you to everyone who is helping me achieve my dreams! Also HUGE thanks to Sarah and the team at Corvisiero for taking a chance on me!

I am posting this picture so you guys can see I'm not making this up! They are in the process of updating their website and after its' finished I'll have my own page with my bio and contact info! Woohoo! Seriously, this has been one INCREDIBLE experience and I cannot wait to see where my blogging takes me next!

*********************************************************************************

Week One Recap:
  • This week I had my first official phone conversation with Sarah. Such an awesome lady and I cannot wait to get this business started! Sarah taught me all about the Corvisiero and what is expected out of their interns! She also introduced me to the query box which may or may not have scared me to death.
  • Once I get the hang of things, I'll be doing all kinds of things. Reading, reviewing, responding to potential clients, etc how exciting is that? And here I was thinking Literary Agents didn't do anything but get coffee and make copies? :P
  • This week Sarah sent me my first set of manuscripts! Talk about intimidating! I have already devoured one and a half of them and I just can't help but think: this is a job? People get PAID to READ? Yes. I've definitely found my future career path! Haha!
  • Just starting out so I haven't done too terribly much yet. With Thanksgiving and the holiday season quickly approaching, I have a lot to do to catch up with all the awesome Agency-related things! Woohoo!
  • Sarah and I decided that I will be tweeting my Corvisiero experience under the hashtag '#InternEthan'. Be on the look out for all the awesome Tweets coming your way followers!
  • Each week I will be posting a recap here to let you all follow along in my Internship experience! Some weeks may be more active than others, but I'd love to have you all along for the ride. Hang on tight because big things are coming from Ethan!

Until next time, Happy Reading!

Contemporary Romance Novella
Neverland Lost, #2

Losing Gwen was one of the hardest things I've ever had to survive. I've never loved anyone the way I love her.
But finding her was never about that. And now that I have found her--now that she knows the truth about me and the Island, I have to trust her to believe. Because her leaving me didn't just destroy me--its killing Neverland.
I need her to love me. But we all need her to believe again.
Peter Pan has grown up and found the girl who left--but the stakes are higher than ever in this romantic conclusion to the story begun in Girl Lost.

EXCERPT:

Gwen is leaning against the window. Every time I leave her, I forget. She’s not all gangly limbs and huge eyes and dirty hair hanging in her face, flinching at her own shadow. Not anymore. That Gwen still haunts my island, but this—this Gwen is breathtaking.

She thinks she’s broken. Fractured pieces of a broken mind, held together by medication and stubborn denial. But she doesn’t see herself, not the way I do.

Lane had that right. She’s breathtaking—even now, when I know she’s sad and broken. She stands straight, a pair of thin sleep pants curving around her ass before falling loose and free to the floor. Her shoulders are back, graceful and strong, under the thick sweater she’s wearing, her hair pulled into a messy knot at the top of her head.

She can see me, my reflection in the dark glass. And I see the tension in her tighten, drawing her up and sharp, until she’s almost vibrating with it. “Why are you here?” she asks, her voice low and hoarse.

She sounds like that when she’s been crying. I know—I’ve heard her so many times, heard her tears. Wiped them away. Whispered happy thoughts until I teased a smile from her.

“Peter,” she snaps, and I jerk, out of the memories and into the moment.

“You ran away.”

She gives an unladylike snort. “You decided you were a delusion of my past, and then you expected me to sit there and listen to your insane ramblings. Thanks, but no. I can’t do that. I’ve had enough crazy for one life.” She bites her lip, and then blurts, “You stole my file, didn’t you? That’s how you know about the Boy.”

“Do you remember the firefly meadow?”

She goes still, and I smile, gently. “You do.”

“That wasn’t real,” she whispers, and I feel the shudder.

“We’d hide there, from the lsot boys. And you’d fall asleep telling me your happy thoughts, and wake up to a galaxy of fireflies, and we’d chase them until you made yourself sick, laughing. And then I’d hold you and we’d stare at the stars, and you always said they were different. It smelled like jasmine and honey-“

“And wild woods and freedom,” she whispers, her blue eyes impossibly wide in her pretty face. I take a tentative step toward her, and touch her fingers.

Why are your stars different?

“It wasn’t a delusion, Gwendy. You know it wasn’t. Trust yourself.”

She shudders. “Can’t. My mind lies. It wasn’t—“

“Gwendy,” I say, desperately. Her eyes are filling with tears and I can feel the disbelief, the way it will tear apart the world I’ve known, and the girl I’ve loved, and I can’t. I move without thinking, catch her head and bring her lips to mine.
