The Gargoyle Gets His Girl (Nocturne Falls #3) by Kristen Painter Review

Hello, and Happy Thursday! Ethan here yet again to share my thoughts on yet another incredible read from Kristen Painter and the Nocturne Falls series. I have absolutely flown through this series and have yet to read something that didn't leave me reeling for more. As of now, I'm all caught up and anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series! But until then I have one more novel to share my thoughts on. This time on the chopping block? The Gargoyle Gets His Girl, book three in Painter's Nocturne Falls series. Here's a bit about the novel and our author before we get to my thoughts:

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.

Willa Iscove, fae jeweler, has her first stalker. Really, he’s just one of her lovesick customers. The ring she crafted to help him find new love has backfired, making Willa the object of his affections. In a bid to rid herself of her amorous client, Willa makes a wish in the Nocturne Falls fountain using the piece of opal in her pocket and in doing so, unknowingly conscripts as her guardian the sexy gargoyle on duty.

Former Army Ranger and gargoyle Nick Hardwin has some serious suspicions about the pretty fae who just invoked the ancient pact for protection. Her kind have been at odds with his kind for ages. Now she wants his help? He’s determined to figure out what she’s up to. Which won’t be a hardship considering how much fun she is to be around. And kiss.

But then her stalker turns out to be the tip of the iceberg and things go really wrong, really fast. When Nick and Willa are both kidnapped, Willa is forced to make a hard decision. The life of her family or the freedom of the man she’s fallen for?

My Thoughts:

September is upon us and thus summer is quickly coming to a close, my favorite season beginning to reign: fall. Pumpkins, leaves of orange and brown, bonfires, and most important: Halloween. My favorite season of thrills, chills, reads, and screams is sure to lift my bookish spirits. Why not read about a world where it's Halloween every day?

I flew through this wonderful series of Kristen Painter's and have been blown away by each passing novel. Quick, fun reads that have really given me the reading high I've needed to make it through the end of Summer rush. As anyone who saw my reviews of books one and two will recall, I loved every second of my time in Nocturne Falls, so how did book three pan out?

The Gargoyle Gets His Girl, book three in the series was yet another awesome installment from Painter. When new-to-town gargoyle Nick is hired on as night security over the town, he never imagines his life will take such an adventure when Willa Iscove happens upon him. Seated in his stone form, Willa innocently makes a wish into the city fountain, having no idea the effects its' magic will have on the unsuspecting gargoyle keeping watch. What starts as confusing friendship quickly escalates to so much more. Can Nick break the spell fae-Willa has over him, or has he fallen for her, regardless of the magic?

The plot of Gargoyle was extremely unique and featured more twists and turns than I can even begin to describe. This novel really relied on shock and awe factors to draw me in, which I really loved. There were multiple occasions, especially in the end, where I was thoroughly surprised by what had transpired.

Willa Iscove has proven to be one of my favorite characters Painter has introduced into the series thus far. I'll be honest, when it comes to paranormal and supernatural creatures, fae are usually my least favorite. They're usually just a tad bit too... much for me to handle. Willa's heartbreaking past and unique powers really helped to change my mind. Unlike other fae I have read about, Painter really pulled out the stops to fully develop this complex character. Nick was also written to near perfection. Gargoyles, in contract to fae, are actually one of my favorite paranormal creatures and Painter continues that sentiment with each passing scene.

The novel introduces the reader into an entire world outside of Nocturne Falls which really took a change from the rest of the series. While the previous two novels have scenes outside of Nocturne Falls, Gargoyle features a majority of the action taking place outside of the city. Ultimately this was probably my biggest negative to this read, as the setting for this series is one of my favorite parts of the story. That being said, Painter still did an incredible job of developing the fae world and its' cultures and characters in a way that kept me more than interested.

While I won't lie and say that Gargoyle has been my favorite installment in the Nocturne Falls series, I still really enjoyed the novel and definitely consider it a must-read for fans of this series. Kristen Painter has quickly become a new favorite author of mine. With such unique plots, settings, and characters, Painter has written the perfect series for all fans of paranormal/supernatural romance stories.

I am so excited to be granting The Gargoyle Gets His Girl by Kristen Painter a well-earned 4-star review. From the very first page I was hooked and now that I've finished, I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment in the series (due out in October 2015). Don't miss this read, add it to your TBR today!
