The Professor Woos the Witch (Nocturne Falls #4) by Kristen Painter Review

Hello, and Happy Wednesday! Ethan here yet again to share my thoughts on yet another incredible read from Kristen Painter and the Nocturne Falls series. I have absolutely flown through this series and have yet to read something that didn't leave me reeling for more. As of now, I'm all caught up and anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series! But until then I have one more novel to share my thoughts on. This time on the chopping block? The Professor Woos the Witch, book four in Painter's Nocturne Falls series. Here's a bit about the novel and our author before we get to my thoughts:

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.

Pandora Williams is Nocturne Falls’ most successful real estate agent. And least successful witch. Her magic never has the intended outcome, but she’s learned to live with that. Mostly. Yes, it sucks, but what can she do? Then a hot new neighbor shows up and suddenly her magic works. Very cool, but very suspect. Especially since he’s a total non-believer.

Cole Van Zant likes practicality and absolutes. Things he can see and touch. So not magic. But when his teenage daughter insists she’s a witch—and they’re now living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day—he needs help. Of the witchy variety. Thankfully, his sexy neighbor buys into all that hocus pocus.

Enlisting her help seems like a great idea until spending time together reveals a supernatural surprise about who Cole really is. A secret even he didn’t know. Could Pandora and Cole really be meant for one another or is their attraction too much to believe?

My Thoughts:

Just in time for the Halloween season, I am so excited to be reviewing the latest installment in one of my absolutely favorite paranormal series of all! A few months ago, I was introduced to Kristen Painter with the release of The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride, I’ll admit that at first I was a little turned off by the title and synopsis, but after devouring that first story, I haven’t looked back. I’ve read each passing installment and haven’t disliked a single one yet. From vampires, to werewolves, to gargoyles, fae, and now witches, Nocturne Falls hosts all the Halloween fun day after day. After crafting so many amazing tales already, could Painter live up to the hype with book four?

Of course she did.

The Professor Woos the Witch may be my favorite installment yet!

Anyone who knows of my love of paranormal knows that witches are one of my favorites. There aren’t many novels pertaining to witchcraft that I haven’t loved in some way, shape, or capacity and of course this one was no exception.

Following the story of Nocturne Falls realtor Pandora Williams, Painter weaves her most fun story yet. When faulty witch Pandora Williams meets Nocturne Falls’ newest family, her life is turned on its’ head when she discovers her newfound attraction to college professor Cole Van Zant. After Cole and his daughter Kaley inherit a mansion in Nocturne Falls, they pick up shop and head South. With Kaley’s constant insistence she’s a witch, she’ll need help from the locals to guide her through her upbringing, but with a father as a non-believer, it’s going to take a lot more than a little magic to prove to Cole that Nocturne Falls is what it claims to be.

Watching Pandora and Cole’s relationship develop was one of the greatest romances I have read in a paranormal story. It was believable and was definitely not an insta-love story in any capacity. In true Nocturne Falls fashion, it talks a lot of twists and turns for our MCs to find their happily ever afters. After Cole discovers a huge family secret (with the help of his ghostly ancestor in the attic), the entire story is turned on its’ head where we discover a whole new race of paranormals to introduce to Painter’s beautifully crafted world.

I couldn’t set this story down for even a moment and ended up reading the entire thing in one sitting. I don’t think I could have been more impressed if I tried. I love how Painter is able to intertwine her paranormal world with our human one so seamlessly, almost as though Nocturne Falls really exists. I’m still waiting for my invitation to join the fun.

In this fourth installment, we see a return to Nocturne Falls for the entirely of the story after many changes in setting in book three. It was a much appreciated return for this reader who absolutely cannot get enough of the Nocturne Falls community that Painter has created. All of our favorite places are here from Howlers, to the sherrif’s office, Hugh Ellingham’s estate, the fountains, the jewelers, and so much more. Fans of the series will love the cameo appearances by many of our former heroes as we catch up with what they’ve been up to since we last said goodbye.

I’m not sure how many installments Painter is planning in the Nocturne Falls series, but I can see these going on for years to come! Keep them coming Kristen, we’re loving each and every installment!

One of the greatest things about this series for me is their ‘fun’ factor. These stories are quick, fast-paced, easy reads. Nothing too deep to bog you down with feels, and just enough excitement to remind you why you fell in love with reading in the first place. The romance is very PG-13 and nothing is explicit. Most of the romance occurs off-page so you can rest assured that this read won’t leave you uncomfortable in any fashion. I wish more writers would take a page out of Painter’s book and realize that a paranormal romance doesn’t have to be erotica to be amazing!

As you can clearly see, I thoroughly enjoyed this fourth installment to the Nocturne Falls series from the first sentence all the way to the final chapter. I absolutely cannot wait for more. It should come as no surprise that I am granting The Professor Woos the Witch a near-perfect 5-star review. I highly recommend this series to readers of romance, paranormal, supernatural, and fiction novels. Don’t miss your chance to catch up on this absolutely incredible series just in time for the Halloween season! Add this one to your TBR today!
